For those looking for a more mellow, family-friendly event on Halloween, the Omaha Symphony is hosting the Symphony Spooktacular. The concert, which begins at 2 p.m. on Halloween day, features upbeat Halloween-themed music, as well as an “instrument petting zoo,” crafts and a costume contest. The multitude of activities and music is designed to appeal to children and adults of all ages.
“The concert is designed to be enjoyed by the entire family,” Adam Goos, vice president of education and community partnerships at the Omaha Symphony, said. “There is something for the little ones, teens and the more mature audience members, too.”
The concert also showcases the talents of various members in the community. In addition to the Halloween-themed tunes, the concert will also include a live “Lion King” medley performed by the varsity show choir at Papillion LaVista South High School. Martial Arts students from Dek’s Tae Kwan Do Studio will be showing off their moves to the song “John Williams’s Adventures On Earth” from the movie “E.T.”
Admission to all of these activities is less than $10 per person, making it an affordable Halloween alternative and a wonderful opportunity to expose children to the sounds of a symphony.
“The music will be familiar to all who attend,” Goos said. “But the opportunity to see and hear this music performed by a live orchestra is really an incredible experience. That is definitely an experience that people of all ages should have and are bound
to enjoy.”
