Presidential Mentoring Scholarships

Presidential Mentoring Scholarship awards are given out to six Creighton Sophomores and Juniors who plan to apply for any prestigious external scholarship during their junior or senior years. These scholarships are meant to better prepare students for their applications for external scholarships. The applications for Presidential Mentoring Scholarships are due to the Career Center by Friday.

The application process mirrors that of many national and international scholarships, once again in order to prepare applicants for their future applications. It consists of an application form, a personal statement, a research proposal and two letters of recommendation. These can also be emailed to Bridget Keegan, fellowships and scholarships coordinator.

Following this process, finalists will move on to an interview with the selection committee, which will make recommendations to the AVP and the President, who will make the final decisions. There is one $2,500 award and five $1,000 awards.

Before applying, students are encouraged to research and identify the external scholarships that they plan to apply for in the future. More information can be found on Creighton’s SOAR: Scholarships Opportunities and Resources website: www.creighton.edu/soar/

“I would encourage anyone who is interested in any sort of scholarship/ fellowship outside of Creighton to apply. At the very least, the process helped me better express my ideas and my goals in a concise, yet interesting way, which is a vital skill in any field. If you are passionate about your research project [and] future plans, your goal should be to help others understand that excitement as well – great ideas and hope are contagious,” Arts & Sciences senior Grayson Jackson, one of last year’s recipients of the Presidential Mentoring Scholarship, said.

These scholarships usually go to students with the highest academic achievement; however, some do consider other achievements and qualifications, according to the Creighton SOAR website. The best advice is to start as early as possible to see how these scholarships and fellowships could fit into future plans.
