Men’s basketball defeats Drake, Altman gets win no. 300

Creighton men’s basketball coach Dana Altman tallied his 300th win at Creighton Wednesday night as the Bluejays beat the Drake Bulldogs 79-68 in Des Moines.

Creighton was led by senior, sharp shooter Booker Woodfox who scored a game high 23 points on 9-17 shooting including five three pointers. Fifteen of Woodfox’s points came in the second half. Sophomore P’Allen Stinnett also scored 15 of his 17 points in the second half. Drake was led by forward Jonathan Cox who scored 19 points while guards Josh Young and Josh Parker both added 18 points for the Bulldogs.

This win avenged the loss Creighton suffered at home to the Bulldogs 74-62 on Jan. 24.

The win improved Creighton’s record to 18-6 (8-4) and dropped Drake to 14-10 (5-7). Creighton is now in sole possession of second place in the Missouri Valley Conference, while Drake now sits in seventh place.

Creighton will travel to league leading Northern Iowa on Sunday for their second match up of the season as the Panthers beat the Jays in their first meeting this season in Omaha by a score of 69-66.
