I was raised in a small town and when I moved to Omaha several years ago, I thought that it had so much to offer.
Years later, I still love Omaha, but I’ve noticed that it’s not as active as other cities of the same size. There are numerous things to do and Omaha is a fun place to live, but the city shuts down after dark and sections of downtown are reminiscent of a ghost town with abandoned buildings and sketchy alleys. Why would a city with a metropolitan population of over 750,000 people be so…boring?
Recently, I read a report that the Omaha Downtown Improvement District has big plans to revitalize the city. These plans include cleaning up the shady area between Creighton and the Qwest Center by adding stores and even a grocery store in that district. Also, major plans to clean up the waterfront region and add more skyscrapers are in the works.
This all sounds great, but it’s a plan that they estimate to take 20 to 30 years to complete. Well, better late than never.
