Creighton should choose drinks more wisely

You’ve seen them all around campus. When you walk through Skutt to sit down for a productive study session, they’re there.

You see your best friend walking on the mall, and you see them out of the corner of your eye.

You start to run the other way, hoping you can escape the prison they seem to have trapped you in. You run into Hixson-Lied and take the stairs to the very bottom level and try to rest in an oddly-placed chair. You sink your face into your hands, hoping the nightmare will end.

Once you think everything is all right, you slowly raise your head to see the very thing you’ve been trying to avoid staring at you as if it were about to eat your soul. The moment horrifies you to the point that you pass out.

I am, of course, talking about the Pepsi products around Creighton and Creighton’s exclusive contract with Pepsi Co. I can recall, on many occasions, the sinking and scary feeling that the individual in my (true) story went through.

As soon as I thought I was no longer in danger of being influenced by its grotesqueness, it would sneak up on me again and again. This isn’t just a collegiate experience for me. I have been encountering this for much of my lifetime and almost decided not to attend Creighton due to this simple fact.

But it’s not just me. I have heard this from many other Creighton students who wish the same as I do: to bring Coca-Cola to this very fine and prestigious campus. I have heard rumors that Creighton did at one time have a contract with Coca-Cola. I have no idea if this is actually true, but if it is, Creighton should be ashamed! The university should never have let an asset like that leave.

But let’s focus on the present. Pepsi Co. is currently the only major beverage provider on campus. This needs to stop.

Pepsi Co. has been tainting the minds, bodies and souls of our student body and faculty for far too long. Pepsi Co. has had the reputation of utterly destroying the health of all human beings since it was were created in 1903.

Not only does Pepsi have a much higher acidity level than Coca-Cola Classic, but Pepsi Co. has also been using genetically altered ingredients of inferior quality to save money.

Through the history of the company, the money-hungry and treacherous corporate leaders have been trying to taint the minds of America. From releasing suicidal images in the Pepsi Max campaign to the pure infringement of President Obama’s marketing logos, to the degradation of women in their iPhone app, it’s apparent that this company needs to be obliterated in order to save our great nation. Creighton can take a revolutionary position to this end by ridding our entire campus of this tainted product.

A new contract with Coca-Cola may be a little more expensive, though it should be no problem considering how much we pay for tuition every year, and the benefits would be well worth the tiny increase. Coca-Cola has the reputation of being a dependable product that we as a society have come to rely on. They use their monetary profits to give back to their loyal consumers through the My Coke Rewards campaign. They care about the consumer and they know that without the consumers they would go bankrupt. They spread their product to over 200 countries throughout the world so many people can “open happiness.”

People, this really is a no-brainer. Coca-Cola cares about the consumer and what vital role we play in its success. Let us finally make this transition as a Creighton community and ask ourselves what the right choice is for us.
