New events spice up Welcome Week

This year’s Welcome Week came with an exciting line-up of events to help first year students adapt to Creighton life by organizing activities that help students become involved.

“With the change in the schedule it gave us the opportunity to add new events that we thought would be better for the new students to become part of the Creighton community and learn more about Creighton,” Arts & Sciences senior and Welcome Week coordinator Eric Wilkerson said.

Some new events included the Creighton Pathway, Be a Bluejay and CU SAFE.

“Welcome Week gives students the opportunity to meet their peers as soon as they arrive on campus,” Wilkerson said.

One of the main objectives of Welcome Week is to help new students get to know their peers.

“My favorite part of Welcome Week is just watching people make friends,” Nursing junior and Welcome Week executive Greta McCall said.

Welcome Week events were featured daily since move-in on Aug. 20, and concluded with a closing ceremony and candlelight mass on Aug. 28.

“Every event we do gives some organization on campus the opportunity to introduce themselves to the new students, which also gives them a way to become involved,” Nursing junior and Welcome Week executive Jenny Vosbeek said.
