Three students ran for CSU president, by Tuesday it was down to two and by last night, the winner was announced. Arts & Sciences junior John McCoy was elected as the CSU president for the next year.
Winning in a run-off, McCoy is thankful for all of the work that went into his campaign.
“It feels pretty good,” McCoy said. “A lot of work went into it; a lot of work from a lot of friends of mine so it’s good to have a good payoff for everybody that supported me as well as myself.”
McCoy’s first move as president will reflect the ideas of his campaign.
“Increase visibility, I think that will be goal of day one going in,” McCoy said. “To do everything we can to make sure everyone knows who everyone on the executive team is … to make sure they know who their board of representative member is and to make sure that CSU is a much more visible presence on campus.”
McCoy believes what set him apart from the other candidates was the way he went about gaining support from students.
“I hope it was the style in which I campaigned,” McCoy said. “I tried to be very open with people, and I tried to show them how visible that I hope to be in the future with my campaign, so I hope to be going around doing chapter visits and everything like that in the future.”
