Itβs hard to have missed the boards lining the sides of the Skinner Mall and outside of the residence halls. The boards featured advertisements for CU Thanks Week and Invest In The NEST, programs arranged by the Creighton Student Philanthropy Committee (CSPC), which are both in their second year of operation at Creighton.
Tables outside of the dining halls and in the Skutt Student Center could be seen from Oct. 29 through last Friday.
Last year, the first time CU Thanks Week was organized at Creighton, 725 thank you letters were written. This yearβs goal was 800 letters. As of now, the committee has reported that they are well over breaking that expected number.
Approximately 50 individuals are involved in the committee that help out with events and make programs like CU Thanks and Invest in the NEST possible.
βWe are really trying to attract young alumni donors,β said Lizz Abrahams, staff advisor to CSPC and assistant director to Student and Alumni Giving. Graduates who have been out of school 10 years or less are whom the committee is trying to encourage to donate more, through the thank you letters written by Creighton students and staff.
Business freshman Jessica Samuelson is an active members of CSPC.
βItβs been great to get involved with things on campus right away as freshmen,” Samuelson said. “Itβs a good feeling to give back.”
CSPCβs next focus will be their βInvest in the NESTβ event.
βThis is where we ask the students to pay it forward … we understand that you guys are college students … we are asking for small donations … like $5,β Abrahams said.
In the previous year, 250 students raised $1600, which was then used for scholarship funds.
