Campus development projects result in major construction

Since we have returned to campus from winter break, there have been numerous areas of Creighton’s campus undergoing changes in location as well as renovations to improve areas that are in need of a makeover.

Β

Although this construction my be hassle in our daily routine, as maneuvering around other buildings and finding destinations can be confusing, these changes will be beneficial in the future when the construction is complete.

Β

John Wilhelm, Vice President for Administration, and Deborah Daley, Director of Public Relations, have an insight on the current changes around campus, allowing us to be informed on the progress.

Β

One of the biggest changes to campus life are those involving the College of Business. The dean’s office as well as several other faculty member offices have made a temporary move to the Labaj Building while the second floor of the Eppley building is undergoing construction.Β  Soon the entirety of COBA will be in the Harper Center.

Β

Sophomore accounting major Mary Kleiss is all for the movement.

Β

β€œI’m pumped that COBA is moving to Harper because the building is awesome and it will be nice to have classes there.Β  It will also be a good to get away from the construction happening on the second floor of the Epply building, it’s annoying walking around it.

Β

It’s evident that although construction may be a nuisance, it’s a necessary project.

Β

Some of the other major developments include the completion of the University Archives, which will be moved to the fifth floor of the Warehem building at the end of February, and the transformation of the FitNest into the Centralized Reservations and the office of Multicultural Affairs in mid February.

Β

One area that has especially affected student life is the changes in the Reinert-Alumni Library.Β  The lower level is temporary closed due to the installment of new compact shelving as well as other alterations that will allow the move of the Creighton EDGE in April.

Β

As of now, there are more plans for renovations that will be taking place in the near future.Β  The Phonathon room is to be moved from the fourth floor to the third in the Old Gym at the end of January due to the move of the Office of Disability Accommodations (ODA) and the Department of Educational Opportunities (EOP). Β In addition, the First floor of the Hitchcock Building will be remodeled in February in order to make way for the move of the Department of Modern Languages.

Β

Along with all of these changes to buildings that already exist on campus, beginning in late February Creighton will be breaking ground on the north Lawn of Morrison Stadium, across from the Ryan Center, to build the β€œChampionship Center”, Creighton’s new athletic and practice facility.

Β

Wilhelm and Daley have put out a progress report on campus renovations which can be found on the Creighton website.Β  Updates on the progress of these renovations will soon be available.
