Ben Thompson issues apology for past actions on social media

There has been much controversy surrounding the letter to the editor I co-authored which the Creightonian recently published. That letter and resulting attention brought to light my past actions on social media–of which I am not proud. My actions were not respectful, intelligent or caring towards others.  This is not who I want to be nor does it reflect the type of individual that Creighton shapes and forms. For this I sincerely apologize to the campus community.

My tweets were not funny.  My words on social media hurt many, many people.  If I am to realize my goal of becoming a man for and with others, I must own my actions, apologize for the hurt I have caused, and begin to work towards the ethic of respecting the dignity of all people. I truly believe that Creighton is still a place where I can grow into the man that I have the potential to be.  I am sorry that I have not shown my best self to the school I hold so dear.

Again, I apologize to the Creighton community and all those affected for the hurt my actions have caused. I commit myself to becoming a better man, community member, and representative of this great institution.  If anyone has additional concerns or questions, I would be happy to speak face to face about my actions and what I have learned.

Sincerely,

Ben Thompson
