Creighton distance Pharmacy student, Matthew Hay, 38, died on October 27, 2022. The news was shared with Creighton’s campus via an email from the Rev. Daniel S. Hendrickson, S.J., university president.

The news came from the Dean of Pharmacy and Health Professions, Amy Wilson, PharmD. As a distance student, Hay received an online education in the School of Pharmacy and Health Professions.

Hay was a native of Bismarck, N.D. and was “white coated” into Creighton’s Doctor of Pharmacy program in August of 2022. Hay received a full-ride scholarship to Creighton based on an essay he wrote on why he wanted to be a pharmacist.

Creighton’s Jason Miller of the College of Pharmacy and Health Professions shared his fond remembrance of Hay in an email interview, “In the short time that Matt was with his pharmacy school cohort, he made an immense impact. Over the past few days, the class and I have fondly remembered and cherished his kindness, sense of humor, generosity, and positive attitude,” Miller said.

“We could always rely on Matt to help if he was ever asked or amuse us with a funny quip.”

A virtual remembrance service was held on Thursday, Nov. 3. Creighton’s community offered support to the Hay’s family’s time of need.
