The Creighton women’s soccer team lost 1-0 on a penalty kick Sunday afternoon against Xavier at Morrison Stadium.
Xavier’s Molly McLaughlin’s penalty kick earned the Musketeers a win in the competitive match.
Although it was not the result that coach Ross Paule wanted, he was encouraged by what he saw from his team on Sunday.
“I was proud of our team’s efforts, it was our second game with this group together, I think we got better from the game before against Missouri,” he said.
He’s also hopeful the team will improve throughout the season with more experience.
“I think we’re going to just grow in confidence from each game. We gotta look at this game, lessons learned from it and experience gained,” Paule said.
But losing a close conference game is never easy.
The focus now is on improving.
“I want our team to get better in the attacking third,” Paule said. “I think we put ourselves in very good spots in the attacking third but it was that final ball that was kinda lacking, and really just the intensity of our runs, attacking the goal, attacking their backline and putting ourselves in front of the goalmouth to score more goals, or score a goal.”
Now 0-2, the Bluejays will look for those improvements as they take on DePaul on Sunday in Chicago.
