Volleyball: Jays win fourth straight conference match

The volleyball team won its fourth consecutive Missouri Valley Conference match on Friday with a 3-0 win over Evansville at the Civic Auditorium as the team and most of the 700 fans wore pink as part of “Digging for a Cure” Breast Cancer Awareness Night. The scores of the match were 25-17, 25-16, 25-22. Creighton moved to 9-7 overall and 6-2 in the Valley, good for third place.

Junior Jessica Houts led the team with nine blocks, 10 digs and seven kills. Her nine blocks come six days after the entire Bluejays team only notched two blocks in a win against Indiana State. This marks the fourth time in eight conference matches this season that Houts has had at least seven blocks, digs and kills, something that has been done only one other time by the rest of the MVC players combined.

The Jays hit .268 as a team and senior Binaca Rivera led the defense with 22 digs, adding to her school record with her 21st career 20-dig match. Seniors Carolyn Decker and Amanda Cvejdlik each had a team-high 10 kills to pace the offense.

The Bluejays are back in action tomorrow night as they finish off the first half of their conference schedule against Southern Illinois at 7 p.m. at the Civic Auditorium.
