Junior Betsy Conry’s hole-in-one at the Missouri Valley Conference Drake Preview on Oct. 21 was a highlight of the Creighton women’s golf season.
“My initial reaction was a mixture of shock and being weirded out, because the hole was straight into the wind so I wasn’t sure if I hit enough club or hit too much,” Conry said.
It was the first hole-in-one of her career and the first for head coach Debbie Conry in her 16 years at Creighton.
“When it took one hop and went in I was surprised. Plus I’ve never seen anyone get a hole-in-one so it was kind of cool that the first one I ever saw was my own,” Betsy Conry said.
The team wrapped up its fall season last Wednesday with a 17th place finish at the Palmetto Intercollegiate. It ended a whirlwind season for the Jays, who finished ninth in their conference.
The team started off the year by placing 13th in the Chip-N-Club Invitational in Lincoln. Top finishers Conry, Armana Christianson and Maggie Kersenbrock led the team.
Its traditional season is in the spring, so the team is ready to work hard and focus on improving.
“Everyone on the team can break 80, we just need to play well at the same time,” Conry said. “So if we can get everyone to play well consistently, I think we can finish very well at conference.” Look for the women’s golfers to be strong next spring at the MVC tournament.
