Softball wins game three of tournament

Preseason All-American junior pitcher Tara Oltman won her first game of the season in impressive fashion by throwing a three hit complete game, with zero-earned-runs against North Texas in day two of the Corpus Christi Invitational. The win improved her record to 1-1 on the year.

The team improved its overall record to 2-1 after dropping their first game of the year again Indiana State on Friday. While the pitching was great, the hitting was also notable, as the Jays scored five runs in the first five innings of Saturday’s game. Senior catcher Laura Kratochvil went 2-4 with two doubles and two RBIs. Junior utility player Renae Sinkler and senior shortstop Bailey Dawson each brought in a run with consecutive singles in the first inning to open up the game for the Jays.

The rest of the Jays’ runs came in the fifth inning on one of Kratochvil’s doubles, followed by junior second baseman Michelle Koch’s RBI single that capped the Jays scoring.

Oltman lost the shutout on an unearned run for the Mean Green. The Jays will turn around and play again Saturday afternoon in a match up with the host team Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
