Bluejays lose close match to Illinois State

In its second five-set match of the weekend, Creighton fell to Illinois State 25-19, 19-25, 20-25, 25-18, 15-7. Creighton’s short, two-game win streak was snapped, and they are now 5-9 (2-2 Missouri Valley Conference) on the season.

After losing the first set, the Jays came back and took the next two. But the Redbirds fought back and never fell behind in the last two sets.

Junior outside hitter Allie Oelke had a double-double with 13 kills, 12 digs and a career-high six blocks. Junior outside hitter Alicia Runge led the Jays with 15 kills. Junior libero Nayka Benitez had a career-high 30 blocks.

With 15.5 blocks, Illinois State became the first team to outblock Creighton this season.

The Jays return to the Ryan Athletic Center next Friday as they take on No. 20 Wichita State.
