Students may be surprised to hear that they helped events such as the JayWalk and the History Club’s Jeopardy take place. The process for funding events hosted by campus clubs and organizations is complex, but with the money taken from student fees, Creighton Students Union is able to finance numerous events all year.
The chart on the right explains the groups that receive funding for different events from CSU. Below is everything you need to know about where your money goes.
The CSU budget is spent from January through December, and the funds are used to keep most clubs on campus running. Any remaining funds from the previous semester are carried over into the next semester.
A certain percentage is taken from each student’s fees paid each semester. The business office calculates figures and percentages of those fees that go toward CSU’s budget. A fund is set up at Creighton Federal Credit Union and other vendors.
Various expenses, such as support to organizations, entertainment and media services, are covered under these funds. The majority of money goes toward sponsoring events for campus organizations.
The funding is divided into five categorical sections, and each category has a specific procedure that is followed when asking for CSU funding.
The general steps are the same for all of the categories, but each has specific outlined steps. Students can view each of the procedures for the dispersing of funds to the five categories on CSU’s Web site.
The amount of money released to clubs is chosen on a case-by-case basis.
In addition, these CSU funds are available for students to review, and questions can be sent to the CSU Vice President of Finance, Kelly Nash.
They can also view their individual student fees and how the fees go towards these CSU funds on their N.E.S.T. account.
