Bluejays brand mavericks

Junior center Kenny Lawson led the Bluejays to an exhibition victory over the University of Nebraska-Omaha, netting 20 points, on Sunday at Quest Center Omaha.

UNO led much of the first half due to the shooting prowess of Jeff Martin who hit his first five three-point shots, helping the Mavericks to a 33-23 lead.

However, the Bluejays would take over with a 13-0 run, scoring on nine of 10 possessions down the stretch to finish the half leading 52-44.

Creighton led anwhere from six to 17 points throughout the second half with a 21-5 advantage in second chance points.

Lawson added a team-best seven rebounds to his 20 points. Junior forward Wayne Runnels scored 12 points along with seven boards. Junior guard P’Allen Stinnett was the only other Bluejay to reach double figures, netting 12 points, six rebounds and one steal.

Creighton will open the regular season net Saturday at the No. 21 Dayton Flyers. Tip-off is set for 12:05 central time and will be broadcast on Big Sports 590 as well as locally on Cox channel 2.
