Ode to a new Creighton year

The excitement is luminous. Freshman are streaming up and down the mall with their RSP groups, upper classmen are dancing around classrooms to catch up with friends they’ve missed all summer, and faculty are excited to see their new students and dive back into their material.

Creighton University is back in session.

As always, the beginning of a new year brings on a love-hate relationship. Many of us can’t wait to finally be doing something after a long summer of relaxation. However, we are also prepping ourselves for the overwhelming days and nights that are fast approaching. Homework assignments, quizzes and tests are about to become our reason for existence. Stress will become your new best friend and sleep will become your very own enemy. And as much as I hate to know that all of these things are inevitable, I can’t seem to shake off this feeling of happiness.

After all, it’s a brand new school year. Who couldn’t help but to be ecstatic to have emerged mighty and powerful from yet another year in school?

New classes, new friends, new habits and new grades are all chances to emerge from where you left off in May. It’s time to tell yourself that your last lousy semester has nothing on you because you have another shot at being great.

Take this year and try to immerse yourself in new possibilities, whether that may be joning a new on campus group or attempting to be more social or trying intermurals, let yourself quest into the unknown. This is your time to start anew.

Here’s to the opportunity to dive into different activities you never have before, to the goals that we’re all aspiring to reach and to another year full of laughter, joy and memories.

Welcome back, Bluejays!
