Crunchy peanut butter and creamy peanut butter enjoyers have long been at odds. Creamy peanut butter (PB) has been a staple food of my diet for quite some time now. High in healthy fat and protein, easy to spread, hard to resist. Crunchy peanut butter offers a better mouthfeel with small chunks of peanuts already embedded into it. There’s no need to add any crunch to your PB&J since the peanut butter does the heavy lifting! Say you’d also like a nice piece of peanut butter toast. You heat your bread up, grab a knife, reach into the cabinet for the peanut butter, spread it on, lick the blade clean, throw the dirty knife in the dishwasher and then come back to eat your toast. Remember to turn on Seinfeld first; it is the best show to watch while eating peanut butter toast. As you sit down to eat, you slightly tilt your plate. Peanut butter runs over the sides of the toast, but regardless, you pick it up. You take your first bite, and as peanut butter continues oozing off the bread’s surface, you become drenched. Your hands, knees, elbows, and nose are covered in peanut butter that slipped and slid everywhere. Maybe it wasn’t so clever to make a quick peanut butter and toast sandwichβafter just one bite, the whole thing became a toast sandwich with peanut butter glaze. Peanut butter is high in fat due to the healthy fats in peanuts and the added emulsifying oils. When peanut butter meets a hot surface, such as a golden-brown piece of toast, it melts. This is due primarily to the poor decision-making of using creamy peanut butter instead of crunchy. Crunchy peanut butter does not suffer the same pitfall nearly as hard as creamy peanut butter. Crunchy peanut butter has stabilizing particles known as chunks of peanuts, which don’t slip and slide off your toast like a waterpark but instead provide a solid foundation for your peanut butter to rest in and an excellent barrier for your two pieces of bread, should you aim to enjoy a peanut butter toast sandwich. Additionally, crunchy peanut butter offers a higher amount of fiber compared to creamy varieties. We could all use more fiber, and crunchy peanut butter offers every benefit of creamy peanut butter plus more. Granted, crunchy peanut butter gets stuck between your teeth more often than creamy. Crunchy peanut butter doesn’t tower high over creamy peanut butter, as creamy PB still reigns supreme in milkshakes and smoothies. Along with this, creamy PB is much more widespread and easier to obtain. Many small convenience stores carry to-go packs alongside wholesale grocery stores with more varieties of creamy in greater quantities. Crunchy peanut butter offers a farm-to-table feel for those longing for a less processed product and something to return to after a long day’s work. Crunchy peanut butter offers a slight advantage to peanut butter. Since re-discovering this world-changing substance, I have never been the same. Crunchy peanut butter deserves a spot in my kitchen cabinet, and you should consider investing.Β
