CSU election left unresolved after debate

The Creighton Student Union Presidential Debate was hosted on Thursday, November 2nd.

Four out of the five candidates participated in the debate that was hosted by the current executives of the Creighton Student Union. Creighton Student Union President Fin Herrera moderated the debate.

The candidates who are running for the position of president include Jireth Galeana, Sam Perkinson, Tess Humphrey, and Emily Meister.

The only candidate running for the position of vice president is Kate Ellis.

Galeana, Humphrey, Meister, and Ellis all attended the debate and answered questions from Fin Herrera.

The candidates were all asked to share their plans, opinions, and experiences.

Herrera also revealed that the Jesuit Gardens should be back in the Spring of 2025. Herrera revealed this after multiple candidates announced they would be pushing for a return of the Jesuit Gardens.

Galeana is a Junior studying Health Administration and Policy and Spanish.

Some of the goals of Galeana include making campus more inclusive, creating more green space on campus, and promoting financial literacy through a program called Jay Soar.

Galeana wants the student body to know that β€œIt doesn’t matter if I don’t know you, I want to know you and I want to know what I can do for you.”

Humphrey is a Junior studying Psychology on the Pre-Dental track.

Humphrey’s main goals include making sure period products are constantly stocked in buildings on campus, more green space, general upkeep of the buildings, and connecting all aspects of Creighton.

When asked what the main takeaway of her campaign should be, Humphrey said β€œI am here to represent you and I am here to support you.”

Meister is a Sophomore studying Neuroscience on the Pre-Medicine track.

Meister announced that she had 10 goals with 10 steps on how to achieve said goals.

A few of the goals include more merchandise for the other colleges on campus, more options in the dining hall, gym improvement, increasing green space, and programming events with the graduate schools on campus.

When asked what the student body should know about her campaign, Meister said β€œKate and I are prepared, we’re prepped, and we’re ready to go.”

Ellis is a Sophomore studying ACS Chemistry on the Pre-Medicine track.

Ellis is running alongside Meister as her vice president.

Ellis has the same 10 goals and 10 steps as Meister.

When asked for the takeaway on her campaign, Ellis said β€œI am for you. I represent you. I will take your opinions into account.”

Perkinson was not present to comment or answer questions.
