On Thursday, Oct. 9, the runoff election results for President were announced. The two candidates remaining after the first runoff were Jireth Galeana and Emily Meister. Before the election results were announced, Fin Herrera gave the State of the Student speech. In this speech, Herrera went over all the goals he had accomplished and went into detail about the budget excess that would be used for the Green Oasis Redesign the student body voted for.
After the speech, Kate Ellis was announced as VP of CSU. Herrera announced that the next CSU president would be Emily Meister. When asked how she felt after the announcement of her win, Meister said she felt excited and relieved to finally know the results. Meister said, βFor the past two weeks, Kate and I had been up until two oβclock in the morning thinking about what we need[ed] to do next.β
Meister and Ellis both remarked how tired they were after continuously campaigning and how excited they were to start the job. Meister said, βThe first thing we are going to do is pick our first goal.β Meister and Ellis had drafted up ten separate goals complete with ten steps to achieving each goal. Meister remarked that one idea she has received the most positive feedback for was the idea of giving out sweatshirts for each of the separate colleges and graduate programs on campus.
Meister also remarked that the first thing sheβll do when her and her executive team gets inaugurated is to get to know them. Interviews for the executive spots were on Sunday, Nov. 12, and Meister said that the team would be chosen on Monday, Nov. 13.
Meister and Ellis congratulated all the candidates that participated in the election. Meister said she was happy to see so many people care about the community. Ellis said βAll the other candidates are all such impressive people and students. They should all feel proud about themselves.β
