Men’s soccer blanks Denver in third straight shutout

Seniors Tim Walters and Andrei Gotsmanov scored against Denver Saturday night, winning 2-0. Walters finished off of a cross from Byron Dacy to put it past the Pioneers’ keeper, Joe Willis.

MAC Hermann Trophy candidate Gotsmanov notched his third goal of the season with seven minutes to go in the match. He is now tied with freshman Ethan Finlay and junior Jeff Thayer for the team-high three goals.

Redshirt freshman keeper Brian Holt had two saves and posted his fifth shutout in seven games. Holt and the defense showed their strength against Stanford and Cal last weekend.

The win was the Bluejays third straight shutout and puts them at 6-1 for the season. The team squares off against Cal State Northridge at Morrison Stadium on Wednesday. Kickoff is at 7 pm and will be televised on NET and CBS College Sports.
