Senior forward Marcy Gans had three goals in eight minutes to lead the Creighton women’s soccer team to a 3-1 win over Northern Illinois on Sunday at Morrison Stadium. The victory improves the Jays to 7-3-0 on the season, including a 6-0-0 home record. It is the first time since 2001 that the Bluejays have won seven of their first 10 matches.
Gans’ first goal came in the 12th minute off a pass from freshman forward Macy Mauer. She then scored in the 17th minute on a free kick and again in the 20th minute on an assist from senior midfielder Shawn Magrum.
Gans leads the team with eight total goals and 19 points on the season. Her seven goals and 16 points at home is already a single-season Morrison Stadium record and her 76 career points ranks second all-time ion Creighton history.
Creighton will continue its four-game home stand next Sunday when Drake comes to town to open conference play. The game is set for noon at Morrison Stadium.
