Skip the clichΓΒ© routine of celebrating the holidays by singing tunes like “Jingle Bells” and “Silent Night” and join in the Omaha tradition by singing tunes like The Faint’s “The Geeks Were Right.”
Omaha new wave and dance-punk artists The Faint are putting on what is now being called their annual holiday show, but this year not only are they doing one concert, but they’re giving fans a chance to catch them in two shows.
Previously signed to Saddle Creek Records and now on its own label, imprint blank.wav, this band revolutionized the Omaha music scene with its electronica beats. Its danceable and techno-heavy “Blank-Wave Arcade” release helped it gain a large underground following, which has then escalated the band into mainstream popularity.
These holiday concerts follow the band’s sold-out performance in August. The Faint has been touring heavily in the past six months in support of its most recent release, Fascination, which came out August 2008.
Both holiday shows are backed by other local artists. December 19, The Faint is joined by Brimstone Howl and The Show Is the Rainbow. December 20, The Faint is joined by Capgun Coup and Son, Ambulance. Past shows have included Omaha natives such as Tilly and the Wall as support.
Tickets are available now for $18 at www.onepercentproductions.com.
