Since 2003, Creighton’s DoIT For Students has been hosting GameFest. The event was initially intended to increase student interest in working for DoIT.
Since then, staffing has not been an important issue, but the event has continued and is now intended for students to have an opportunity to gather and game.
“We want everyone to be able to take a break from their stressful, busy lives of studying and game a weekend away,” said Mark Smedinghoff, Student Technology Support manager.
This year, over 400 students gathered to take a break from studying, hang out and game.
This was the sixth annual GameFest, and the event is expected to take place again next year.
The event was on Saturday from 6 p.m.- 6 a.m.
The Skutt Student Center Ballroom looked like a spaceship control center filled with dozens of TVs, projector screens, computers and gaming consoles.
It was the perfect atmosphere for an epic night of gaming.
“GameFest is the one time a year that I can play on several different consoles in one night and show everyone how awesome I am at all of them,” said Arts & Sciences senior Tim Barth.
On top of free gaming and free pizza, many prizes were handed out. Door prizes included jackets, bobbleheads, T-shirts and a variety of other things.
Items such as a new Nintendo Wii, two iPod Shuffles and some games were given to the winners of tournaments.
“I had to play four games to advance to the championship,” said Business senior Devin Sitzmann, the winner of the Nintendo Wii.
“Then the force was with me as I pwned my opponent in a light saber duel.”
