Today in the SW parking lot of Morrison Stadium a mock residence hall room was set on fire by the Omaha Fire Department. The demonstration was to show exactly how fast a fire can spread. Fire Captain Dave Poulicek explained, “Every 30 seconds the fire will double in size so it doesn’t take very long for the fire to get out of control.” He also said that it takes the OFD roughly 7 minutes to get to your dorm room door with the hoses to put out the fire. Poulicek stressed that you need to close your door when you leave the building to prevent the fire from spreading any quicker than it can.
