Recovering Harriman anxious to play again

The good news is junior forward Casey Harriman is recovering from his bout with H1N1 flu and its complications. The bad news is no one has told him when he can get back on the court.

“I have an enlarged spleen, so nothing for now,” Harriman said Monday. He attended practice with his team at Qwest Center Omaha but couldn’t participate in any drills. “It’s really frustrating not knowing when I’m going to get back.”

He has an ultrasound scheduled for today, but his return to practice will only happen after swelling in his spleen has gone down.

Harriman was in the hospital for five days, including for the Jays’ first regular season game, a road loss at Dayton. He watched his team play on TV, but it just wasn’t the same.

“Watching from the hospital was hard to do,” he said. “It’s so different.”

He had mixed feelings about what he saw, as the Jays took a 46-41 lead into halftime only to lose 90-80.

“I was really happy the first half,” Harriman said. “I was a little disappointed we couldn’t pull it out.”

Reunited with his roommates after being in social isolation and going back to class leaves just one thing out for Harriman: basketball.

He is impatient to rejoin his team on the hardwood.

“I’m trying to do anything, eat anything, take anything I need to to get back,” he said.
