So there’s this week called dead week, and it never seems to be dead. As a student I need this week to prepare for finals, but alas, I am stuck finishing up papers, creative projects, portfolios and mass amounts of last minute readings that professors feel the immense need for me to read for some odd reason . Why even call this week dead week? Is it because we, as students, feel dead during this week, after this week and need the entire winter break to catch up on sleep? I believe that that is why it is called dead week. Professors want to make us feel dead.
I don’t understand how students are expected to write 20-page papers for each class and hand them in during dead week and still find enough time to prepare for a cumulative final. Fair? I say not. These last minute projects, papers and balderdash should be handed in the week before dead week so we, the students, are able to use dead week to study for our finals and be able to know everything we need to for the final. I want to be prepared for the final that is 25% of my overall grade and I want to do well on that last paper that’s another 25% of my grade. However, I am not able to do this all in one week, nor could you to the best of your ability, unless you’re crazy smart or somehow one of “those” people who don’t procrastinate and plan things out months in advance.
Finals are important to students, and being well prepared would benefit them, their grades and their overall GPA. So why isn’t dead week dead?
