Monk Series Finale

On Friday night millions of fans will have to say goodbye to “Monk”. USA Network is airing part two of the series finale at 9 p.m. EST on Dec. 4. For those who missed it, part one will be shown again immediately preceding park two.

“Monk” has an irreplaceable charm that will be forever missed. The show’s main character, Adrian Monk (Tony Shalhoub), is an OCD detective that uses his outstanding observational and reasoning skills to solve every case that comes his way.

The cast is full of loveable characters that help Mr. Monk along. Captain Leland Stottlemeyer (Ted Levine), Lieutenant Randall “Randy” Disher (Jason Gray-Stanford), Sharona Fleming (Bitty Schram) and Natalie Teeger (Traylor Howard) are the show’s main supporting characters. Natalie and Sharona were Mr. Monk’s assistants and the other two were members of the San Francisco Police Force as portrayed on the show. Natalie replaced Sharona as Mr. Monk’s assistant somewhere during the third season.

Together the cast puts on unforgettable episodes, each one unique and satisfying. After eight seasons, that’s an impressive feat. According to a recent article, the show’s producers wanted the show to go out on top, which is exactly what it is doing. Mr. Monk has successfully solved every case to come his way, except for the most important one: the murder of his beloved wife, Trudy Monk. It was the death of Trudy that kicked of Monk’s extreme case of OCD and with that became the underlining question of the show: who killed Trudy? Throughout eight seasons fans, and Monk, have speculated. The series will end in the solving of this unending mystery.

While it will be sad to see the show end, most fans have been anticipating this moment for years, latching on to the various hints dropped by the writers throughout the years. The series finale has a lot of expectations to be filled, but judging by the quality of the final season, it will reach them. The mixed feelings of fans add to the anticipation to see the end.

“I love Monk! He is my favorite neurotic detective. I can’t wait to see how it ends, but I am sad to see it go,” Business sophomore Brenna Yallop said.

Yallop said she missed the first part of the finale, but her family tells her it was amazing.

“My brother told me a little about it, but all he said was that you saw the Trudy’s killer in the first minutes of the episode. He wouldn’t say anymore because it would ruin it for me. I definitely plan on watching, even though it’s a Friday night,” Yallop said.

Micah Yamamoto, Arts & Sciences sophomore, made sure to watch the first part last Friday.

“I liked the first part, it was very good in the sense that it really is setting up for the conclusion of the series,” Yamamoto said. “As for the [the show] ending, I’m sad, but I do think it is time.”

The series finale will hopefully settle any questions that are floating out there unanswered. If fans want to try to piece together what happened though the clues left by the writers of the show there is a cool section of the USA Network’s website entirely devoted to it, and on Friday there will be a “Trudy Mythology” marathon for those dedicated sleuths out there that want to see if they can unravel the mystery before Mr. Monk and his companions.
