*Breaking News This Morning*

On your way to class this morning you may have seen crowds of protesters on the corner of 24th St and Cass St. At 8:30 am, members of the Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kan., were picketing to protest, in part, predatory priests and homosexuality. Their signs were rather crude with sayings like, “Priests rape boys,” and that homosexuals were going to hell.

Creighton students responded by forming their own protest right across the street from the Westboro church members. Students brought attention away from the members by creating random signs saying, “God Loves Spaghetti Pizza” and “Stop the Drilling.” The Creighton community was loud and overpowered the chants of the picketers.

The Westboro Baptist Church is known for protesting at military funerals to express the belief that U.S. troop deaths are punishment for the nation’s tolerance of homosexuality.
