Business symposium offers opportunities

Students will soon be offered the opportunity to meet and hear from some of the biggest names in business during the Seventh Annual Creighton Business Symposium.

The symposium, which will consist of personal interactions, roundtables and speeches with some of the nation’s top executives, will be held next Friday, Nov. 4 from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. in the Qwest Center. The symposium will offer students the chance to meet and discuss issues with business leaders from across the country, from Washington D.C. to Washington state, said Business seniors Karin Stelter and Spencer Feld, co-coordinators for the event.

“I want students to learn something and have the opportunity to build a relationship with executives,” Feld said. “It’s a two-way process. They want to learn from us too.”

While students in the College of Business will have their classes moved to the Qwest Center throughout the day, students from all colleges are encouraged and welcome to attend.

Students will be able to “gain real life knowledge and bring that to the classroom,” Stelter said. “There’s something for everyone.”

At $10 for students, the symposium attendees will get a lot of value out of the event. The price includes a complimentary continental breakfast and luncheon and three separate panel sessions for students. These panels will discuss topics ranging from the national debt to making the most of one’s college career.

Two keynote speakers will be at the symposium. According to the symposium website, the morning keynote address will be given by Donald Bisenius, Freddie Mac’s vice president of the Single Family Credit Guarantee Business, which oversees a $1.8 trillion portfolio. Bisenius holds a doctorate in economics from Iowa State University and a Bachelor of Arts in economics and business communications from Creighton University.

The afternoon keynote speaker, Tony Audino, is the current CEO of Conenza, a corporate social networking business. Since leaving his position as a Microsoft executive, Audino has founded five companies and has served on the boards of many other organizations, private and public.

This year’s Business Symposium promises students a unique opportunity to gain inside knowledge of the ever-growing world of business. Students wishing to register are free to do so online at the symposium’s website within the College of Business.
