Letter: McAcy encourages students to vote

For those of you who had Fall Break last week, I hope you had the chance to relax and reenergize for the rest of the semester.

Next Tuesday, Nov. 1 is election day for the Creighton Students Union. From 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., all students (undergraduate and graduate/professional) will get the chance to cast their ballot for the executives and representatives who will lead CSU for the 2012 calendar year. Please be looking for that.

On the night of Nov. 1 at 9 p.m., I will be giving the annual State of the Student Address at the Skutt Fireplace. This is an annual address given by the President of CSU highlighting all of the work the outgoing executives and representatives have done over the past year. We will also be announcing election results at the Address.

Also, during this Address, we will be conducting business in the form of reviewing the Governing Documents of the Union.

On Monday, Oct. 10, the Board of Representatives voted to send the Constitution of CSU to this Address to be amended.

Over the summer and into the fall semester, the Executive team has been working tirelessly alongside guidance from the Cabinet, which is comprised of the Presidents of all School Governments, to ensure that CSU is the most effective and most representative of our student body as we look toward the future.

In researching other Jesuit and public universities, it was found that CSU lacks sufficient executive support, namely a Vice President in charge of communications and a more concentrated effort to inform the student body of what is going on in CSU at all levels.

It is our recommendation that as CSU moves forward into the future, the current Chief of Staff position be elevated to a Vice President role and assume more duties equal to the three other Vice Presidents of CSU.

In order for this change to properly take place, we need the vote of the student body. So I strongly urge you to come on Tuesday, Nov. 1 to the Skutt Fireplace to take part in this historic process. The meeting will start promptly at 9 p.m.

The current Governing Documents, including the Constitution, are always available for review by any student who wishes to see them. They are located in the Student Activities Office.
