Do-it-yourself DJ

For all the DJs out there, Thursday is your night to shine.

Whether you’re an aspiring DJ or just someone that likes to play music for your friends, there is an opportunity for you to flaunt your skills.

Thanks to turntable.fm, anyone can be a DJ. It’s a free app that works for both iPhones and Android phones.Β  With it, you can select music and create playlists that are played in the β€œroom” on the app, which can be hooked up to speakers through a phone or computer.

Papa Chris’ Chicago Originals has Turnsday Thursday, featuring turntable, every week.Β  The bar and grill in Benson welcomes everyone to come in and try it out.

It’s a small establishment, and everyone is extremely friendly.Β  There is between 15 and 30 people there every Thursday, taking turns at being the DJ.Β  The bartender is relaxed and witty, and he sets the mood for the entire night.

The Turnsday Thursday idea is relatively new, and it’s still developing.Β  It’s a refreshing idea, and it has a chance of catching on.

β€œIt’s a unique experience, β€œ sophomore Collin Atkinson said. β€œIf you like music, you probably like to make playlists and be a DJ. With turntable, everyone can be a DJ, and that’s what makes it great.”

Turnsday Thursday is still a small thing, and turntable is a developing app. As the two things evolve, people will be able to control what they hear when they are out to eat. For free.Β  Essentially, it’s a free, more hands-on version of a jukebox.

By no means is this a huge event. However, it’s a fun, quiet way to spend a Thursday night. The atmosphere is nice, the idea is unique and the music is up to you, which makes it a pretty cool experience.
