As the long drone of the school year finally comes to a close and students’ minds finally have a chance to unravel, Campus Ministry is offering a wonderful opportunity to refocus the mind before school restarts, in the form of a retreat.

The Fall Adventure Retreat will take place in the Black Hills of South Dakota over Labor Day weekend and offers students an opportunity to experience God through nature. Students are invited to leave the noise and busyness of campus and city life behind for a weekend retreat that includes hiking, biking, camping and community through Christ.

“The general idea behind the retreat is that one of the most powerful ways people can experience God is through nature, through creation,” Craig Zimmer of Campus Ministries said. “So our goal is to immerse students in nature for a long weekend.”

Zimmer noted that the Black Hills provide a beautiful backdrop for students to be in community with another and God, and provides an opportunity to get out of the regular routine of city and campus life.

“If students leave the retreat with a greater appreciation for the natural world, a closer connection with God and/or feel inspired to care for the earth in their lives, then I think we’ve done what we’ve set out to do,” Zimmer said.

The participants will leave August 31 and return September 3. The $150 fee for this retreat is non-refundable and payable by cash or check in the Campus Ministry Office, located in Lower Swanson Hall.  A $50 deposit is due by the end of the spring semester to hold your spot on the retreat. All meals in South Dakota will be provided, as well as transportation and lodging.
