Kenefick Hall will host its annual βKenefick Goes to Vegasβ event from 8 p.m to 12 a.m. Friday. They will feature Vegas style games, photo booths and drawings for prizes.
Kenefick Hall has been preparing for the event for a while.
βIt is usually a complete effort of the RAs and the staff,β Kenefick Hallβs residential director Lucas Novotny said.
Novotny has been overseeing this event for the last three years.
βStudents should go to the event because the hall executive council puts a lot of work into setting up the event,β Arts & Sciences junior Jillian Kuligoski said.
Kuligoski lived in Kenefick Hall last year and attended the event.
To those whoβve been to the event in the past, it will be set up in the same way. The success of last yearβs βKenefick Goes to Vegasβ caused for little change.
βLast years [event] worked. There will be different dΓ©cor and different prizes, but it was really successful last year,β Novotny said.
The event has been going on for more than five years and is a big hit with many students who choose to return to it year after
year. It is a way to go out with friends without having to worry about the stress of alcohol being there, Kuligoski said.
βThis event is a great alcohol alternative and it gives you an excuse to dress up and have a good time with your friends,β Kuligoski said.
βLast year we had over 1,500 people from all resident halls,β Novotny said.
Students can chose to dress up in a cocktail dress or a suit, like one would if they were going to a casino in Las Vegas, but it is not required. They will feature plenty of activities to keep students busy throughout the whole night.
βUsually there is a room for poker and blackjack, a photo booth, snack and light refreshments. Thereβs a chance to win raffle tickets for prizes. The more raffle tickets you get the more prizes,β Novotny said.
Students get poker chips as they win games. The more poker chips one gets, the more raffle tickets they can obtain. Then those raffle tickets go into the raffle that you want to win.
βSome of the raffle prizes include Starbucks and iTunes gift cards, DVDβs and novelty prizes,β Kuligoski said of last yearβs prizes.
So Friday, grab your friends and head to Kenefick to have a little piece of Vegas here in Omaha.
