Another year of movies and glamour at the Oscars

The beginning of the year brings also means award season for film, television, and music. Time for all the A-list stars to show off designer dresses and suits. Everyone has his or her own reason for watching it.Β  Some watch for the fashion of the stars, others to cheer on their favorites, or maybe simply to watch because there is nothing else on television. There are many different types of award shows such as Grammy’s, Golden Globes, Teen Choice Awards, and my favorite of all time, the Oscars.

Many amazing movies and actors are up for awards this year. Usually it is an easy choice for who should win what category, but this year some are a toss up. The easiest one to pick would be best-animated film. “Brave” by Disney and Pixar is a shoe in for this one. It is an amazing film that is not just for kids, as many of my friends have gone to see it too. This helps prove that when Disney is working with Pixar, they can create some of the greatest animated films.

The best actress is a tie between Jennifer Lawrence in “Sliver Linings Playbook” and Jessica Chastain in “Zero Dark Thirty”. The issue with picking just one is that they both had tough roles and performed so well in them. While watching the films, I couldn’t turn away. They helped make these movies such big hits.

The best actor is hands down Hugh Jackman in “Les MisΓ©rables”. Now before everyone starts on the rant on how the movie was depressing and so forth, do remember it was a musical and it was based off a popular book. Β Now that takes extra credit in my opinion because the book was a hard movie to create. Jackman’s character had many parts and made it hard to fill all of them, plus he had to sing on top of that. Β He should already win for the acting, but the singing was an amazing bonus. I was shocked when he first started singing because I did not know he was that good. His acting stood out as well in an amazing performance that will be hard for anyone to repeat.

Here comes the really hard part, best motion picture of 2013. While all of the movies were beyond expectations, one has to come out on top. The decision for this one is going to be based on which one was more popular, not that it makes it any easier. All of them were hits in the box office. In the end, I believe that “Lincoln” will win. It was an amazing movie that featured a combination of great actors. It gave a greater look at Abraham Lincoln not only as a president, but as a human as well. It gives a new look at him and the Civil War instead of the same old information that one has seen at least five times throughout their time in various history classes. It stood out as one of the movies I will actually remember in five or ten years.

While I have only covered the major categories, the small ones matter as well and are equally as interesting to see who won. The whole show will be a joy to watch from the red carpet to the last award given out that night. So lights, camera, action time for the awards.
