Running for miles upon miles is only one way to describe the hectic cross-country lifestyle. One might also say that running for what seems like an endless amount of time not only gives one an adrenaline rush once crossing that finish line, but also proves that one may need a great source of will power to continue on throughout the race. For the Creighton cross country team, their head coach, Chas Davis, was their inspiration and encouragement when it came to meets and practices. Unfortunately, due to unknown circumstances, Davis has recently resigned, his βlast dayβ being March first. His passion for running and exuberant cheering became well known to the cross country team and will be sorely missed.
βMy favorite thing about Coach Davis β¦ would have to be his cherry red face yelling at the top of his lungs mid-race in a catcherβs stance when he was excited about our performance,β junior runner Danny Diaz said.
This bond formed between the runners and Davis is one so strong that most wanted to see it kept in place. Although it was not entirely surprising to the cross country runners, it was just as heartbreaking to hear that he would be resigning this spring.
βWhen Coach Davis informed us of his resignation, I had the sense we were saying goodbye to our number one fan,” sophomore runner Meghan Barry said. “In the two seasons I have had the privilege to compete for him, Coach Davis has proven thousandfold his passion for running and coaching the team.β
Although the underlying relationship formed was a great one, a new one will eventually be established with the new head coach. While on the search for the next head coach, assistant coach Matt Rogers from Florida has been filling in and will be in the running for the job. In the meantime, the runners continue to compete and run just as hard as before remembering how passionate their old head coach was whilst cheering them on. They look to the future with high hopes and excitement.
