I must confess I have never eaten a crepe. The only reason I even know what they are is because Sacha Baron Cohen and Will Ferrell burned the image of “really thin pancakes” into my brain in Talladega Nights. As a    result, my first experience at The Corner Creperie, a new restaurant practically on campus, was an exciting one.

Being a resident of Heider Hall, The Corner Creperie is incredibly convenient. It is located at the corner of 24th and Chicago streets (or directly across from The Jay). Made almost entirely out of windows, the new creperie has a pleasant atmosphere and plenty of aesthetic appeal. One of the first things I noticed, even before I was inside, was the artwork hanging on the walls. Each of the colorful paintings displayed a young person, every one vastly different from the rest although they seemed to be all done by the same artist. There was great lighting and good acoustics according to my friend who noticed the echo. My first thoughts were that it would be a perfect place for a poetry reading, or even a small group of musicians.

Of course, hardly anyone goes to a food establishment for atmosphere alone. The young girl who took our order was very patient as my buddy and I struggled to pick just one crepe each. We eventually decided that one of us must try the “Savory Crepes” and one the “Sweet Crepes.” I ordered the chocolate crepe with “dark chocolate ganache (a type of frosting), candied hazelnut, and caramel syrup,” while he ordered the grain crepe with “quinoa, chickpea, charred scallion, and sweet pepper puree.” When I tasted mine, I knew I had made the better choice — that is until I had a bite of his grain crepe. The actual crepe itself was soft and delicious, and each one was stuffed with a unique combination of ingredients. After looking over the menu, we saw not only a dozen more types of crepes, but also various soups, teas, and lattes. Needless to say, I’ll be back to try the crepe stuffed with “seared steak flank, cauliflower, pickled shallot, and horseradish crema” very soon.

The Corner Creperie is a wonderful addition to campus’ dining options. The bright atmosphere, the friendly staff, and the delicious food all work together to make this little hole in the wall (or rather, hole in Capitol Row) a great find. And what’s more, the prices are not through the roof. I’d strongly advise any Creighton student who enjoys a good crepe or even those who still picture “really thin pancakes” to stop by this new restaurant.
