Nebraska favorite opens in Omaha

As the corner of 72nd and Dodge streets looks to get a makeover, the old Family Fun Center has been torn down in order to make room for a long anticipated restaurant chain. Omaha will be opening its first Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers this Thursday at 10 a.m.

Omaha natives like Arts & Sciences sophomore Claire Svoboda have been making the trek to the nearest Raising Cane’s location in Lincoln over the past few years just to get her hands on these famous fingers. Why is there so much enthusiasm over this fast food chicken finger chain?

β€œKentucky Fried Chicken is so β€˜90s, and trying to find the Chick-fil-A in Omaha is like searching for buried treasure. Raising Cane’s is a southern secret that brings excitement to the Omaha community,” Business junior Kaelin Pilkington said.

The menu at Raising Cane’s is far smaller than that of any other fast food restaurant in town. There are four options for customers to choose from, each featuring only chicken fingers and side dishes. Many people love the simplicity of the restaurant’s system.

β€œHaving an entire menu devoted to chicken fingers is exactly the kind of fast food I am looking for,” said Natalie Takacs, a local of Papillion.

While the limited menu items do not bother Takacs, there are others who are not as impressed. The thrill of perusing a menu and wondering what to get can be an important experience for fast food customers. Raising Cane’s leaves little room for this kind of excitement.

β€œJust chicken fingers? Can’t they be more creative with their menu?” Business junior Julianna Wians said.

What this restaurant lacks in choice, they appear to make up for in taste. A special sauce unique to this food chain gives the standard chicken finger and fries a whole new flavor. Comprised of a mayonnaise base with a spicy kick, Raising Cane’s sauce has its customers drooling.

β€œIt just so happens to be my mom’s birthday that day and I may or may not have asked to attend a fast food restaurant for her birthday dinner,” jokes Svoboda.
