Every time I find myself bored and turn on the TV, there always seems to be some type of reality show on. Even though I might think its ridiculous I somehow end up watching it. Iβm sure there is a time when people might ask themselves the same question: Why is it that these peoples live on TV catch our attention?
I tell myself itβs because I probably have nothing better to do and why not watch the crazy things they do. At the same time, I wonder why Iβm not doing something more productive. Reality TV shows people that all end up being loud and crazy.
Reality TV makes people like those from, βJersey Shoreβ or βTeen Momβ, famous and manages to get them rich from doing all these things. People do not understand that by watching them, that they are just creating more ideas for networks to show others around the world a view of those peopleβs ridiculous lives.
For some reason people seem to be captivated by other peoples lives and enjoy laughing at their foolish actions and personalities on TV. It may be thoughtless behavior, but it is seen due to our interest in pop culture and what everyone else is doing with their lives. People just want to watch other people be outrageous and make fools of themselves so they have something to talk about. If they donβt, then their friends will share it with them and get them hooked because its that absurd.
It seems people like to see them because it makes them look more normal by the way those reality stars are being portrayed on TV. What is worse is that reality TV shows are not always a realistic portrayal of life and include many dialogues and interactions that are staged. It creates an influence on people because they see the way they act and it makes it acceptable somehow.
From time to time I will occasionally watch some of those types of shows, but as I grow older I see that people a lot younger think that if they are doing those types of things then its okay. In reality, paying close attention to these shows, demonstrate how they have no respect or values to how they should be acting.
These shows only benefit those in the network and show because they are the ones earning money from the people watching their show, when they do not deserve it. Reality TV should not be what people want to see all the time or want to aspire to be in because it can easily ruin the image of person or make excuses for those that actually act in such an inappropriate way.
They should be learning that those are not the things that should be modeled after. Reality TV shows only share with the audience things that people want to see. If that is the case, it is sad to see that this happens, is seen everywhere, and they feel that it is important enough that people should see it.
People watch these shows because we want to see what others are doing and how our lives are different from theirs. I see the entertainment value in their antics, but Iβm not sure we need a lot more shows like those if our society is going to be judged by those types of reality shows.
