Village Inn is a breakfast staple

Village Inn is probably the most recognized name for breakfast food. It features warm, delicious food along with fulfilling pies. The great part is that it also fits into a college student’s budget. Now most of this is due to the fact that breakfast food is normally cheap, but still the added slice of pie helps out as well. It is close to campus, so you do not have to travel far. There are, however, many locations scattered through Omaha for those living off campus.

It is a great place to go with your friends no matter what time of day it is. On weekends it is open late, so after a night out it’s a quick and easy place to grab a bite to eat. It is also open in the early morning, which is nice during the weekends when the hours for breakfast in the dinning halls change and hot breakfast is not served until the morning has nearly ended.

The menu varies and doesn’t just feature breakfast food, though that’s the best part. I went for the V.I.B., which allows me to pick four items off a list. It can vary from pancakes, to eggs to a crepe. I decided to add on chocolate chip pancakes for a little more. This provides a nice point, since one can add things on instead of being limited to the list. They add some items on as well for those who are trying to eat healthy. I went for French toast and along with it, eggs and bacon. Needless to say I was hungry that morning and needed to be filled up.

The food doesn’t take forever to come out unless you make the mistake of coming for a brunch on Sunday after church. The food comes out hot and looks amazing and tastes as good as it looks. The food hits the spot and fills me up fast. They offer syrup and jelly, which is a must for any place that serves breakfast. The pancakes are my favorite. They don’t over due the chocolate chips but add enough so one can tell they are there.Β  The bacon is great, and is actually not overcooked like so many other places serve as. A cold glass of milk to go with the meal, and my stomach feels like it is in heaven.

Now one cannot talk about Village Inn without pointing out the pie aspect. While I was not there on Pie Rush Wednesday, I still felt the need to grab a piece to go. For those who may not know what Pie Rush Wednesday is, you are missing out. On Wednesday after 10 a.m., you can get a free slice of fruit pie with the purchase of an item. The good news is that you don’t have to order a whole meal in order to get this slice of pie, but rather a drink works just as fine. The pie I grabbed wasn’t fruit, but rather my favorite – the French silk pie. This is chocolate mousse with whip cream on top. It is a chocolate lover’s dream pie.

Overall, Village Inn is a great place for college students to go for breakfast food and pie. It fits into the budget and fills you up still. The service is quick and not once have they managed to disappoint me. I would recommend going sometime when you want to get away from the dining hall for a bit and enjoy the company of friends.
