With anything, variety is the spice of life and this summer’s music scene was no exception. This season saw many artists produce songs that connected the audience to the energy and vibe of summer. Here are five of this summer’s greatest hits:

1) One of the summer’s most popular songs was “Rude” by Magic! This song tells the story of a father rejecting a request for his daughter’s hand in marriage. As an audience, we sympathize with the rejected man as he sings of the father’s “rudeness.” We are attracted to this song for its upbeat, reggae sound and infectious energy. While the subject of the song may seem gloomy, the song itself makes me feel anything but that!

2) The song “Rather Be” by Clean Bandit featuring Jess Glynne was another big hit of summer 2014. “Rather Be” became popular among the public for its feel-good, energetic lyrics.
