This month, the Skutt Student Center is hosting the art exhibit βLittle Bits of Happiness,β a student poetry and graphic design gallery.Β
The gallery features unique and creative posters that display thought-provoking poems. The poems were written by English students, and the posters were designed by graphic
design students.Β
To create these works of art, the student poets were asked to write poems that relate to the prompt βLittle Bits of Happiness.βΒ
These poems were then shared with the designers who interpreted the poem and designed the poster accordingly.
College of Arts and Sciences senior Karli Hunton says she heard about the project in her Graphic Design II class and created the posters for the poems titled βRes Dog Sonnetβ and βUnder the Harvest Moon.βΒ
Hunton says for the piece titled βUnder the Harvest Moonβ she wanted βsomething rustic, yet simple that illustrated some of the content within the poem without being too literal.βΒ
βI hand-drew the images, added some effects and placed the poem to be fluid throughout,β she said.
In the end, Hunton was happy with how the poster turned out.
Hunton originally became involved with graphic design because she felt it was the best way to combine communication and creativity.Β
βThe beauty of graphic design is communicating aesthetically-pleasing messages with visual purpose,β she said.Β
The βLittle Bits of Happinessβ project seems to be a perfect project for Hunton and other English or design students because it allows students to communicate powerful literary messages in creative and dynamic ways.Β
Stop by the second floor of the Skutt Student Center to check out the fascinating exhibit for yourself. Β
