The Creighton Dance Company will celebrate Christmas with a twist with performances of βThe Nightmare Before Christmas.β
The show borrows characters from the Tim Burton movie of the same name, Β Patrick Roddy, coordinator of Creightonβs dance program, noted.Β The show marks a departure from the typical βNutcrackerβ programs performed at holiday time.
βI have a really good feeling that people are going to be curious about this,β said Roddy.
The dancers are performing a loosely told story about Jack getting tired of Halloween and wanting to take over Christmas.Β The story continues with Christmas somehow going bad and Santa taking it back in the end.
βWhat I have tried to do is make the show more whimsical rather than so spooky or dark,β Roddy said.
Roddy says that he wants Jack to come off as a good guy just wanting to have some fun.
The varieties of dance genres performed include ballet, modern, jazz and tap.
The dance company has been working on the performance since September with hours of rehearsals.
You can see the show Dec. 4-6 Β at 7:30 p.m. The last performance will be held on Dec. 7 at 2 p.m.Β
