Creighton students bring Andy Grammer to campus

As you may know, pop-rock sensation Andy Grammer is scheduled to headline Creighton’s 2015 Fallapalooza. The β€œHoney I’m Good” singer will take the stage on Oct. 10 at Sokol Arena, with only a limited number of tickets still available.

News also broke on Tuesday that Grammer’s opener for the eventwill be the hip-hop rock band Radical Something, an independent trio comprised of three Californian singer-songwriters.

β€œStudents can expect a high-energy show,” the Vice President for the Creighton Students Union Programming Mattie Smyth said. β€œI’m anticipating an incredible turnout. It will be a good break from the stress of school, especially with midterms coming up. It’s a great opportunity to let loose and have some fun before buckling down with academics.β€œ

According to Smyth, who’s currently a junior in the College of Arts & Sciences, Grammer isn’t a random headliner. The CSU Program Board carefully selected him. Smyth explained that the 10 board members sat down last semester and each proposed five artists to perform.Β

β€œWe listen to all of them, check on prices and then narrow it down to our top five options,” she said.Β

Once the list was trimmed down to five acts, Smyth worked with Concert Ideas, a college talent agency and talent buyer, to book an artist. However, the process for booking these hot artists is no easy feat.

β€œWe check on their availability first and foremost for our proposed date,” Smyth said about the beginning of the process. β€œI also have to get a reservation with Sokol Omaha before I can commit to anything.”

Once an artist is found and confirmed for scheduling, the Program Board votes to approve the selection. The artist is then proposed to the Vice Provost for Student Life.

β€œI have to connect song lyrics to Jesuit values, give background information and examples of other universities they’ve performed at,” Smyth said.Β

β€œThe entire process takes about two weeks to get approved. Then I sign an offer sheet and essentially place a bid on the artist,” she continued. β€œIf they accept, then I get a contract started. That process takes around a month to get routed through the legal council and for me to read it and sign it.”

Obtaining Grammer for this year’s concert was a time-consuming task, but all of the hard work will hopefully pay off.

Grammer’s single β€œHoney I’m Good” was deemed a song of the summer, scaling as high as No. 28 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The song has more than 60 million streams on Spotify. He also has recently performed on Jimmy Kimmel, the Honda Stage and on the Disney TV show β€œLiv & Maddie.”

Grammer is currently taking a break from singing, as he is a contestant on the most recent season of ABC’s popular β€œDancing With The Stars.” His trip to Omaha will provide him a quick breather from the dance studio and ballroom.Β

Remaining tickets are located at the front desk of the Student Leadership and Involvement Center. Tickets are free for Creighton undergraduates and $10 for graduate students, professional students and non Creighton guests.Β

Ticket purchases are limited to one guest per Creighton student. Busing to Sokol Arena begins at 6:30 p.m. at Deglman Circle. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the concert begins at 8 p.m.Β

Pop rock singer Andy Grammer performs at The Grove L.A. Shopping Center in Los Angeles, California. Grammer is most popular for this summer’s radio hit β€œHoney I’m Good,” along with past tracks β€œKeep Your Head Up” and β€œFine By Me.” Grammer will play at the Sokol Auditorium on Oct. 10 following the opening act, Radical Something.
