Holiday Lights make spirits bright

A large crowd braved the near-freezing temperatures on Nov. 21 to see the opening of the Midtown Crossing Holiday Lights Spectacular at Turner Park.

The event offered a wide array of family activities before the show from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., including yoga β€” led by Lotus House of Yoga β€” and various arts and crafts.

The lighting started at 7 p.m., but before that children had the chance to meet Santa and Mrs. Claus and to tell Santa what they wanted for Christmas.

The show lasted approximately 20 minutes and ended with fireworks.

According to the Midtown Crossing website, the best area to view the show is in the middle of Turner Park, facing west, but parts of the lights are visible from the promenade surrounding the park.Β

The Holiday Lights Spectacular will happen nightly through Jan. 1.Β

If you aren’t able to attend or brave the cold, you can watch the light show online at KETV 7 ABC Omaha.Β

β€œI think it’s really cool that I live somewhere where this happens,” said Megan Hatfield, Midtown Crossing resident. β€œIt’s amazing to be a part of something and to help spread holiday cheer.”

Accompanying the light show is traditional and modern Christmas music via speakers that is sure to get everyone in the Christmas spirit.Β

β€œWhile I’m excited about this light show and Christmas, I think it’s going to be a long couple weeks for residents,” Hatfield said. β€œFireworks, lights and music are going to get a little old after a while for us residents β€” well, I can’t speak for everyone, but it’s just going to get a bit repetitive.”

The children in attendance were jumping up and down with excitement for the mix of lights, music and fireworks. The lights seemed to bring out the child in even the adults as many watched in awe with smiles on their faces.Β

This new holiday highlight is back and here to stay.Β
