In the series finale, senior pitcher Micaela Whitney brought her A-game. The Omaha native registered a new careerΒ-high in strikeouts when she totaled 15 against the Bulldogs.
The Bluejays were unable to take advantage of her stellar performance, losing the series finale 2Β-1. The BIG EAST Championships take place May 13th and 14th in Rosemont, Illinois. Only the top four teams in the conference standings make the championships and as we approach the end of conference play, each game is a deciding one for the Bluejays.
Creighton (25Β-17, 7Β-6 BE) moved into the final fourth place slot, while Butler (25-Β20, 8-Β6 BE) moved into third. Creighton was the first team on the board after Jen Daroβs RBI single in the fourth inning brought home Michelle Trulin.
Jen Daro, a junior infielder from Omaha, went 1Β3 at the plate with one RBI. Butler quickly tied the score in the next inning on a one out double by Riley Carter. PinchΒrunner Jenna Foreman would also score what would be the game winning run on an RBI single by Krosley Ogden.
Kristin Gutierrez, pitched eight innings, allowing one run but she did not get the victory. Mikeila Boroff, pitched the ninth inning and did not allow a run earning the win. The Bluejays had not lost in three extra inning games this season until the loss to Butler.
