Best beans in Omaha

In my early teenage years, I began the mission to become an avid coffee drinker. Hailing from Minnesota, I marched over to the closest Caribou Coffee and perused a menu that was entirely unfamiliar to me. I started my exploration with the sugary likes of Turtle Mochas and Northern Lite Chocolate Coolers. Slowly but surely, I made my way toward the dark and the bold. Now, I take plain coffee with a little cream, please.

When I began my career at Creighton, my search for the best cup of coffee in Omaha commenced. But a multitude of factors go into this important decision, more than just the bean itself.

I’m talking atmosphere of the shop, prices, hours, how it’s roasted, etc. Here is my list of favorite coffee shops and why you should check them out.

Urban Abbey is the best for long days of studying. The nonprofit coffee shop sells coffee and books and serves as a place of worship. The many windows allow for a serene atmosphere of sunlight and coffee with a cause and communion.

In the heart of the up-and-coming Blackstone District, Archetype is within walking distance for many Creighton students. After studying abroad in Peru in the summer of 2015, I definitely appreciate sipping on the Peru Santa Josefa Cosecha Natural blend while enjoying the aesthetic of the brick walls and patio seating.

If you view coffee roasting as a careful production that deserves attention to detail, careful assessment and love, Beansmith will not fail. Though a bit pricier, a cup of joe at the Old Market location will definitely give you the bang for your buck.

A favorite of many Bluejays, Aromas features two locations: one in the Old Market and one in Benson.Β

I prefer the Benson store, especially in the summer, because of the quiet environment and outdoor seating. In the winter, try a hot cup of the Apple Chai, my favorite specialty drink.

Caffeine Dreams most likely wins my heart over the rest. The etchings on the bathroom walls and the thrifted flannels are major crowd-pleasers. I also met Matt Damon once after a trip to Caffeine Dreams, so hey, it might be lucky.

Though I’ve only been there once, I can confirm that Sozo is the ideal haven for any student. It’s an underground mecca that features private study rooms and is open 24 hours.Β

If you’re looking for a coffee shop that is overflowing with Jesuit values, look no further than Well Grounded. They brew Intelligentsia Coffee, a roasting company that uses direct trading methods.
