The Creighton volleyball team remained undefeated and extended its win streak to 12 games with a pair of 3-0 wins over Seton Hall and St. John’s over the weekend.
The weekend road trip concluded the Bluejays’ October schedule in which they played seven of their nine matches on the road. Creighton went 9-0 in those matches, dropping just two games total during that stretch.
The Jays traveled to South Orange, New Jersey, for a Friday evening match against Seton Hall (11-13, 5-6 Big East). Creighton swept the match 25-16, 25-18, 25-12. Sophomore outside hitter Taryn Koth paced the Bluejays with 12 kills and five blocks, and junior middle blocker Marysa Wilkinson added 10 kills and four blocks.
It was a near wire-to-wire victory for the Bluejays, who only trailed in the first two points of the match and maintained leads the rest of the way.
Creighton then took on St. John’s in a Saturday afternoon match that saw the Jays sweep the Red Storm 25-14, 25-20, 25-18. Kloth and Wilkinson each had 11 kills to lead the Bluejays, and sophomore middle blocker Megan Ballenger added nine kills and seven blocks.
The Bluejays are now 18-6 on the season and 12-0 in the Big East. Creighton’s 12-game winning streak ties the longest in school history. The Bluejays now hold a 2 1/2 game lead at the top of the Big East conference standings with six conference games left to play in the regular season.
On Monday, the Bluejays made a return to the American Volleyball Coaches Association poll for the first time in nearly two months. The Bluejays received enough votes to be ranked No. 25 in the AVCA poll.
The Bluejays started the season ranked No. 18 in the preseason AVCA poll before dropping out of the poll on Sept. 5 after a rocky start to the season.
In addition to their return to the AVCA top 25, the Bluejays are also ranked No. 20 in the official NCAA Rating Percentage Index rankings.
Creighton plays the remainder of its six regular season games at home. The Bluejays return to action weekend to take on Butler on Friday night at 6 p.m. and Xavier on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the D.J. Sokol Arena.
